Peter Richard Kurzweil, M.D.

Dr. Kurzweil is an internationally recognized Orthopaedic Surgeon with expertise in arthroscopic or reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder, and the treatment of athletic injuries. Dr. Kurzweil is a summa cum laude graduate of Amherst College, where he played tennis and squash. As a medical student at the University of Rochester, N.Y., he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society, and completed his Orthopaedic residency at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Following completion of the prestigious sports medicine fellowship at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine in Long Beach, Calif., Dr. Kurzweil joined the practice, where he is now Fellowship Director. He served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for four years. He is the Orthopedic Team Physician for California State University, Long Beach. Dr. Kurzweil is also a designated “Neutral Orthopedic Surgeon” for the National Football League, and served as Team Physician for the Long Beach StingRays of the American Basketball Association and The Long Beach Ice Dogs, a professional hockey team in the IHL. Dr. Kurzweil is on the editorial boards for The Journal of Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review, and Orthopedics Today. He also serves as a reviewer for several other leading orthopaedic journals. He has published numerous articles and book chapters, and is a frequent speaker at national and international meetings. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, California Orthopaedic Association, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America, where he was recently elected to the Board of Directors. In addition to his professional commitments, Dr. Kurzweil enjoys skiing and continues to play as much tennis as possible. He belongs to a gym and actually goes – working out at least 5 days week. Dr. Kurzweil strives to emphasize education to his peers as well as his patients. He truly believes that an informed patient is a vital part of the medical process, and is committed to providing the highest quality service and most advanced methods of treatment available to his orthopedic patients.
